Blue Wave Certification means that the beach has met national criteria for health, cleanliness, safety and ecologically sound practices, designated by the National Clean Beaches Coalition.
American beaches generate over $640 million dollars to the US economy annually, and according to National Geographic Traveler and Yahoo polls, the number one factor in deciding which beach to go to is… cleanliness. Well, rest assured beachgoers, that Rockport has meet that standard for over 4 consecutive years now and was the first Texas beach to achieve this environmental certification.
In addition to clean water, a Blue Wave Certified beach focuses on protecting both human health and the ecological environment. All Blue Wave beaches are litter free, have gentle swimmable waters, public restrooms and handicap accessibility.
To maintain certification standards, the beach must be a well-managed aspect of a thriving community and must test its waters for bacterial contamination. The Texas General Land Office (GLO) administers the Texas Beach Watch Program and has beach waters tested weekly during beach season and biweekly the rest of the year. Results are posted on the internet as well as the beaches themselves. So, relax and dive in the sparkling blue waters of Rockport Beach, because your health and safety are assured.
Keeping Rockport ’s beach clean and beautiful requires some regulations. Cars, dogs, bonfires, and campsites are all banned, along with glass containers.
The beach is located at 210 Sea Breeze Circle and its open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.
